Understanding User Perceptions of Trustworthiness in E-recruitment Systems

Algorithmic systems are increasingly deployed to make decisions that people used make. Perceptions of these can significantly influence their adoption, yet, broadly speaking, users understanding the internal working is limited. To explore perceptions algorithmic systems, we developed a prototype e-recruitment system called Algorithm Playground where offer look behind scenes such and provide how why explanations on job applicants ranked by algorithms. Using an online study with 110 participants, measured perceived fairness, transparency trustworthiness systems. Our results show user data reasoning candidates rankings selection evoked some positive attitudes as participants rated our platform be fairer, more reliable, transparent trustworthy than they have in past.
